On March 23, 1996, at 1310 hrs., companies responded to a fire reported at 245 Ogden Avenue, which was a three story frame building. Engine Company 18 arrived on the scene and transmitted a second alarm at 1316 hrs. and a third alarm at 1322 hrs. While battling the blaze Fire Fighter Dennis Lutz collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. Due to the excellent team work of the Fire Department, the Emergency Medicla Services, and the Police Department, Fire Fighter Lutz is alive today and is still an active member of the Jersey City Fire Department.
