The following is an official Jersey
City Fire Department Press Release from February 9, 1996.
JERSEY CITY, NJ
-- At 8:55 am on 2/9/96 the Jersey City Fire Department received
a call from the Jersey City Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
for a reported train crash at the Croxton Yards, County Road,
Jersey City. Engine Company 11 arrived on the scene at 9:08 am.
A second alarm was transmitted at 9:16 am.
At 8:55 am, Jersey City Office of Emergency Management Coordinator
Jerome A. Cala and the Honorable Mayor Bret Schundler declared
the scene at County Road, Jersey City a disaster area.
The Jersey City Fire Department sent 8 Engine Companies, 5 Truck
Companies, Squad Co.4, Rescue Co. 1, the Hazardous Materials
Unit, the 3rd Battalion Chief, and the 1st Division Chief, Fire
Director Nicholas Fargo and Chief of Department Frederick Eggers
(a total of 75 men).
Chief of Department Frederick Eggers was in command of the incident
until Jersey City Fire Department Units were released from the
scene at 12:41 pm. Command of the incident was relinquished to
the New Jersey Transit Chief on the scene.

The Fire Departments of Jersey City, Secaucus, North Arlington,
Rutherford, Carlstadt, North Bergen, Harrison and Hasbrouck Heights.
The Police Departments of the New Jersey State Police, Hudson
County, Jersey City, Secaucus, Port Authority, New Jersey Transit
and Conrail.
Emergency Management from the State Office of Emergency Management
(OEM), Hudson County OEM, Jersey City OEM and Secaucus OEM.
Emergency Medical Services of the Jersey City Medical Center,
McCabe Ambulance Service, University Hospital and Bergen County
Mutual Aid.
The Federal Agencies of the National Transportation Safety Board.
The Support Services of the Red Cross and the Jersey City Fire
