President Lincoln was a direct descendant of Captain Richard Salter, plantation owner and prominent official in Colonial New Jersey.
The City Historian during the administration of Mayor Thomas Smith, J. Owen Grundy also traced his lineage back to Captain Salter. J. Owen Grundy proudly shared ancestry with Abraham Lincoln.
