On Monday, February 26, 2001, at 1:00 p.m., Mayor Bret Schundler and Police Director Michael Moriarty will highlight crime reduction in Jersey City.
"Since taking office in 1992 I was determined that crime must be reduced if Jersey City's young and old are to feel safe in their homes and enjoy life. I am proud to say that Jersey City's crime rate has fallen 8% in 2000, 34% since 1992, and has had a 20 year low in rapes, larceny, burglary and robbery," stated Mayor Bret Schundler.
Director Moriarty said, "Through the combined efforts of Mayor Schundler and the Jersey City Police Department, we have witnessed over the last eight years an effective stand against crime. More police are protecting our streets, equipment has been upgraded and community-based programs have all added to our success."
