At least a hundred volunteers, wearing shirts labeled "Tired of Tolls? -- www.endtolls.com," will converge on three different boardwalks to gather petition signatures from beach-goers.
To support the petition drive and raise awareness, an airplane towing a banner that says "Tired of Tolls? -- www.endtolls.com" will be flying up and down the shore.
Other locations for the petition drive will be the Seaside Heights and Point Pleasant boardwalks. The petition drives will set the stage for a major grassroots lobbying effort to pressure Trenton to remove the Parkway tolls.
"Motorists who use the Garden State Parkway are frustrated with the inefficient toll collection system. It causes severe traffic congestion, wasted fuel, pollution, accidents, and lost time," said Mayor Schundler. "I look forward to working with Citizens Against Tolls to send Trenton a message that it's time to enter the 21st Century and tear down the tolls."
