The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Transit System (LRT) will
conduct an "Open House"
program at its Liberty State Park Station in Jersey City next
Saturday, January 8, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00
p.m. The rail station is located at the park's entrance off
Johnston Ave., near Exit 14B of the N.J.
Turnpike.
The public will be invited to tour the new light rail cars that next spring will begin service connecting Bayonne and Jersey City's Exchange Place and stations along the way. LRT representatives will be on hand to answer questions pertaining to station locations, hours of operation, fares, and safety and comfort features of the rail cars and stations. Maps will be distributed.
Jersey City Mayor Bret Schundler and John Johnston, President and CEO of the 21st Century Rail Corporation will be among the featured speakers at the "Open House."
"I urge everyone to attend this event, especially senior citizens, for the LRT can be a blessing in convenience to them and the "Open House" will explain how," Mayor Schundler said. He noted that seniors will benefit by discounted fares and that there will be wheelchair access at every station and on all trains.
