A Self-Guided Walking Tour of Jersey City's Van Vorst Park Historic District
A Walking Tour of Architectural Styles
4. 61, 49, and 51 Wayne Street

By Herbert J. Githens

DIRECTION: Look just across the street to 61 Wayne and down the street to 49 and 51 Wayne Street.

The Greek Revival style could be adapted to brick buildings by using wooden decorative features. These houses are each made up of a basement and three stories. Notice how the top floor is contained within the attic, interrupting the architrave and frieze of the entablature and allowing the cornice to be continuous.
