DIRECTION: Having contrasted a Greek Revival with an
Eastlakean building, we move on to more examples
of the earlier style. Walk east on Wayne Street
across Barrow Street. On the left (north) side
is 62 Wayne Street.
This small two-story wood-frame house again reflects the
carpenter's adaptation of Greek Revival ideas. There are no
columns here, but the heavy cornice with dentil blocks is
of Greek Revival style. Notice how the fascia board is
interrupted by the second-floor windows, and how the roof
slopes front and back up to an intermediate ridge. The
relationship of window sizes is similar to that in the Barrow
Mansion, as is the treatment around the doorway. A simple
molded drip cap over the first-floor windows highlights the
opening.
